CUTTING-EDGE LECTURER AND FILMMAKER TO PRESENT AT BOISE STATE
Lecturer and filmmaker Sut Jhally will present “Tough Guise — Violence, the Media and the Crisis in Masculinity” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom at Boise State University. This lecture and visual presentation, sponsored by the Boise State Student Programs Board, is free and open to the public.
Jhally is best known for his controversial and award-winning film “Dreamworlds: Desire/Sex/Power in Music Video,” which The Los Angeles Times called “a scathing examination of pop video’s use and abuse of women.” Jhally is considered a leading expert on advertising and media studies. He is an award-winning researcher and author of four books and research studies and he has presented his films and lectured at universities nationally and internationally.
In his “Tough Guise” presentation, Jhally will systematically look at the relationship between the images of popular culture and the social construction of masculine identities in the United States in the late 20th century.
