WEEK HIGHLIGHTS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS, PREVENTION
The Boise State University department of nursing and the Student Programs Board will present a week of activities relating to the awareness and prevention of rape, assault, harassment and other forms of sexual victimization. Sexual Assault Awareness Week events, scheduled for March 19-23, are organized in conjunction with Women’s History Month.
Throughout the week, participants will be encouraged to share their stories of heroism and courage as they confront the issues of sexual assault and date rape. All events are free and open to the public.
Events include:
 | Monday, March 19 — Information booth, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Student Union Wellness Stop. Stop by to get more information about decreasing your risk for being sexually assaulted. Prevention information and general resources will be available for victims and survivors in our community.
 | Wednesday, March 21 — "Tough Guise," 7 p.m. in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. Lecturer and filmmaker Sut Jhally will present this visual presentation dealing with violence, the media and the crisis in masculinity. Jhally, an award-winning researcher who is considered a leading expert on advertising and media studies, is best known for his controversial and award-winning film "Dreamworlds: Desire/Sex/Power in Music Video."
 | Thursday, March 22 — Self-defense demonstration, noon-2 p.m. in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Join local experts to learn basic techniques for self-defense.
 | Thursday, March 22 — Sexual assault prevention seminar, 6-8 p.m. in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. A panel of experts will discuss preventing sexual aggression and providing support for those who have experienced sexual violence and assault. Panelists include: Don Pierce, chief of police of the Boise Police Department; Curtis Clay, sexual assault prevention specialist and national speaker in violence prevention against women and children; Angie Bevier, Boise Police Department detective specializing in violence prevention against women and families; and Bev LaChance, executive director of the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, which provides local resources for women and families who are experiencing violence in their lives.
