EXTENDED SYSTEMS’ RAY SMELEK TO SPEAK AT BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY

Ray Smelek, chairman of the board of Boise-based Extended Systems, will speak at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Boise State Student Union Jordan Ballroom B & C. Smelek is the second speaker in the College of Business and Economics’ Distinguished Speaker Series for 2001.

Before joining Extended Systems, Smelek was with Hewlett Packard for 37 years and headed the development of the LaserJet printer for HP. In 1973, he selected Boise as the site of HP’s printer division.

Extended Systems designs and markets an extensive line of hardware and software linked to mobile information management. The company has almost 400 employees worldwide.

Smelek will speak about his experiences with HP and will use his Extended Systems experience to illustrate how one becomes an entrepreneur.
