Spiderman, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane and Willem Dafoe at the Green Goblin.

Saturday, Aug. 24 — Amped at the Amphitheatre. 8 p.m., Centennial Amphitheatre. This concert features local rockers Danger Baby and ska/punk band Abrupt Edge. Free.

Wednesday, Aug. 28 — Alternative Energy Expo and Lecture. 11 a.m.-1 p.m., expo on the Quad, 7 p.m. lecture in Jordan Ballroom. The multi-faceted event explores alternatives to nonrenewable energy sources. Expo showcases solar ovens, wind-driven computers and more. Free.

Thursday, Aug 29 — Brian Brushwood’s Bizarre Magic Show. 7 p.m., Special Events Center. Brushwood blends magic, side show and the bizarre. He eats fire, escapes from an audience-tied straight jacket, performs sleight-of-hand magic, breaks cinder blocks over his head, sticks nails in his eye, reads minds, lays on a bed of nails, performs the indescribable human crazy straw and more. Admission at the door is $3 for the general public and free for Boise State students, faculty and staff.

Saturday, Aug. 31 — Operation B-Day. This second annual pre-game party, with a barbecue sponsored by the Rec Center, features live bands, a pie-eating contest, Smurf Turf Putt Putt, a climbing wall by ROTC, a spirit rally with Buster Bronco and the Maneline Dancers and more. Barbecue costs $5, free to residence hall students.
