Will Brian Brushwood really stick
a nail in his eye? Find out at his "Bizarre Magic" show, one the
events sponsored by the Boise State University Student Programs Board to kick
off the new school year. Members of the public are invited to join in the
festivities. Here is the schedule.
Friday, Aug. 23 — Free Movie
Friday, "Spiderman," 9:30 p.m. and midnight, Centennial Amphitheatre.
This action-packed tale of a nebbish young man who gets bitten by a mutated
spider and develops super powers stars Toby Maguire as Peter Parker, a.k.a.
Spiderman, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane and Willem Dafoe at the Green Goblin.
Saturday, Aug. 24 — Amped at the
Amphitheatre. 8 p.m., Centennial Amphitheatre. This concert features local
rockers Danger Baby and ska/punk band Abrupt Edge. Free.
Wednesday, Aug. 28 — Alternative
Energy Expo and Lecture. 11 a.m.-1 p.m., expo on the Quad, 7 p.m. lecture in
Jordan Ballroom. The multi-faceted event explores alternatives to nonrenewable
energy sources. Expo showcases solar ovens, wind-driven computers and more.
Free.
Thursday, Aug 29 — Brian
Brushwood’s Bizarre Magic Show. 7 p.m., Special Events Center. Brushwood
blends magic, side show and the bizarre. He eats fire, escapes from an
audience-tied straight jacket, performs sleight-of-hand magic, breaks cinder
blocks over his head, sticks nails in his eye, reads minds, lays on a bed of
nails, performs the indescribable human crazy straw and more. Admission at the
door is $3 for the general public and free for Boise State students, faculty and
staff.
Saturday, Aug. 31 — Operation
B-Day. This second annual pre-game party, with a barbecue sponsored by the Rec
Center, features live bands, a pie-eating contest, Smurf Turf Putt Putt, a
climbing wall by ROTC, a spirit rally with Buster Bronco and the Maneline
Dancers and more. Barbecue costs $5, free to residence hall students.
