Boise State Women's Center
Hosts Free Seminars on Dealing With Sexual Aggression
The community is invited to attend a
seminar on sexual harassment and sexual assault sponsored by the Boise State
University Women’s Center. "Sexual Aggression 101: The Rules Have
Changed" will be held at 7
p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Student Union Special Events Center.
Nationally renowned speaker Todd
Denny, a former athlete, speaks out about male aggression, attitudes and beliefs
that perpetuate violence and offers some solutions. This engaging program
combines music, theater and storytelling with respectful, open discussion on
dating, communication, relationships and sexual assault.
The program is especially geared
toward students — both male and female — and their perceptions regarding
dating violence. Topics include the increased risk for first-year female
students, the double standard regarding alcohol and sexual assault and the
danger of focusing solely on communication.
A teaser performance with Denny and
his musicians can be viewed at noon at the Tablerock Café, also in the Student
Union.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, Denny
will lead a men-only seminar on violence prevention. Beginning at noon in the
Student Union Farnsworth Room, the free event includes lunch. The seminar
helps men understand how rape and abuse affects the women in their lives and
teaches prevention skills that help reduce violence against women.
