Boise State University will compete in College
Bowl, "a workout of the mind." The event is as educational for
audience members as it is for the competing teams.
The first of two campus tournaments will take
place at 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom, as
part of the Homecoming Week festivities. Admission is free to spectators.
Student, faculty or staff teams may sign up to compete in College Bowl by picking up a
registration packet at the Information Desk in the Student Union by Sept. 30. A
$5 non-refundable registration fee is charged per team.
College Bowl is a game of academic knowledge and
quick recall. Now in its fourth year at Boise State University, the College Bowl
campus program has been a popular tradition on America’s campuses for 24
years. Boise State is among more than 300 institutions of higher education
playing College Bowl.
Like the popular radio and television series of
the ’50s, ’60s and ’70‘s, the game features two teams of four players
each competing to score points to toss-up and bonus questions. Teams participate
in three preliminary rounds. Top scoring teams advance to final rounds where
they will compete for prizes including hockey tickets, gift certificates,
valuable coupons and more.
The questions cover every conceivable topic from
literature, science, history, geography, religion, social sciences,
multicultural topics and the arts to popular culture, sports and current events.
College Bowl is organized and administered with
the cooperation of the Association of College Union International (ACUI). The
Boise State tournament is run by the Student Union.
The four highest individual scorers of the two
campus tournaments will be selected to sit on the All-Star team. The All-Star
team will advance to the regionalchampionship tournament in February 2003 at the
University of Washington.
