Let the Academy of St. Giles transport you back to medieval and Renaissance Europe with a concert of French, English and Italian tunes at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Admission at the door is $5 adults, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

Formerly known as the Boise State University Early Music Ensemble, the Academy of St. Giles will perform medieval dances, Burgundian court songs, complex Italian ars nova songs, recorder ensemble music and a couple of motets (choral compositions of sacred texts) from the 14th century. Composers include Andrea Gabrieli, Tielman Sausato, Gilles Binchois, John Dunstable and, of course, many tunes by everyone’s favorite composer, "anonymous."

The musicians in the ensemble are Joseph Baldassarre, director, Kathy Hurley, Laura Berg, Helene Mock and Gail Vaughan. The instruments played will be lute, vielle, cornamuse, recorder and mid-Eastern percussion instruments, along with voice.
