The Haft Ahang Ensemble continues the 2002-03
Classic Performances series at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Boise State
Special Events Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, students
17 and under and Boise State students, faculty, staff and alumni, at
Select-a-Seat outlets, 426-1494 or www.idahotickets.com.
Tickets will also be available at the Special Events Center box office the night
of the performance.
Additionally, on Friday, Nov. 15, the Haft Ahang
Ensemble will give a free master class at 2 p.m. in the Morrison Center Recital
Hall.
The santur, daf, dohol, and tombak are among the
traditional instruments used by the Haft Ahang Ensemble. The ensemble is a
relatively new group committed to introducing Persian classical music to the
Western world. The performers are Kazem Davoudian and Behrouz Jamali. Davoudian
has been performing music all his life. An accomplished composer and teacher,
Davoudian immigrated to the United States in 1990. He has continued to
contribute to the development of traditional Persian music through performance,
composing, teaching and making santurs.
Jamali has studied music since age 6. His diverse
interests have drawn him to the study of Western classical music, participation
in theater performance, poetry and collaboration in music research projects. He
currently lives in Washington, D.C., and he frequently works with Davoudian to
present concerts of Persian music.
The concert is presented by the Boise State
Student Union. The Classic Performances Series is designed by students to bring
to campus musicians who represent an eclectic blend of tradition and today. For
