BOISE STATE OFFERS KRAV MAGA
SELF-DEFENSE PROGRAM NOV. 16
The Boise State University Women’s Center and Department
of Nursing are combining to sponsor a one-day self-defense workshop from 8
a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Student Union Lookout Room. Training is open
to all ages, physiques and levels of fitness.
The workshop, which is open to the public, focuses on Krav
Maga, a simple, effective self-defense system that emphasizes instinctive
movements, practical techniques and realistic training scenarios. Krav Maga is
the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces and has been
taught to hundreds of law enforcement agencies and thousands of civilians in the
United States.
Sensei Pone Inthathirath will teach students how to
channel natural "fight or flight" reactions into swift defensive
tactics, and then escape to safety. He teaches Krav Maga as a way to build
empowerment and self-awareness through learning how to protect oneself.
Cost is $10 for Boise State students, $15 for faculty and
staff and $20 for community members. Each participant will receive a free Krav
Maga T-shirt. Similar training workshops are valued at $100. Participants must
register by Nov. 13 by calling 426-4259 or stopping by the Women’s Center at
1605 University Drive.
