‘IT’S FOR THE BIRDS’ CONCERT FEATURES BOISE STATE ORCHESTRA

"It’s For the Birds," the Boise State University orchestras’ fall concert, will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, in the Morrison Center Main Hall. Admission at the door is $5 adults, $3 seniors and free to students and Boise State faculty and staff.

The University Orchestra will perform Rossini’s overture to "The Thieving Magpie" and Stravinsky’s suite from the ballet "Firebird."

The Chamber Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Linda Yordy’s award-winning "Meditation for String Orchestra." This composition by Yordy, a Boise State graduate, recently won the Merle Isaac Competition sponsored by the American String Teachers Association. Her composition was chosen for this national honor from a field of 50 submissions. Yordy is the assistant director of Boise State’s Center for Management Development in the College of Business and Economics.

The Chamber Orchestra will also perform Carl Nielsen’s "Concerto for Flute" and will feature flutist Suzanne Jenkins on the first movement.
