BOISE STATE FAMILY HOLIDAY CONCERT FEATURES
FESTIVE MUSIC
The whole family will enjoy holiday music, sing-along
carols and a visit from Santa Claus at the Boise State University Family Holiday
Concert from 7:30-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the Morrison Center Main Hall.
The University Orchestra will once again perform
highlights from "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky. The piece was a huge
hit the last time it was performed in 1997. The set includes several ballet
favorites, including the "March," "Dance of the Sugar Plum
Fairies," "Trepak," "Arabian Dance," Chinese
Dance," "Dance of the Reed Pipes," and "Waltz of the
Flowers."
Other concert highlights include:
® a faculty brass quintet — Marcellus Brown (trumpet),
Michael Fischer (tuba), David Mathie (trombone), Brad Peters (trumpet) and David
Saunders (horn);
® the Kiwanis Boys Choir, made up of 50 local youth;
® the University Orchestra, 170-voice University Singers
and Meistersingers performing "Benedicite" by Ralph Vaughn Williams,
with Laura Rushing-Raynes as soprano soloist;
® a trombone choir and percussion ensemble;
® and a visit from Santa with candy canes for the kids.
General admission tickets are $1 for students, $4 for
seniors and $6 for adults, available at Select-a-Seat, 426-1110 or 426-1494, or

students, faculty and staff can get free tickets at the Student Union
information desk.
Now in its 70th year, the concert is a tradition of the
Boise State music department and the Treasure Valley. Parking is free. For more
