BOISE STATE TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL EDUCATION
WEEK
Boise State University has scheduled a variety of events
to commemorate International Education Week, Nov. 18-Nov. 22. This week is a
joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of
Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment
and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences
in the United States.
This is the first year Boise State has scheduled events to
commemorate this event. This week gives international students, students who
have studied abroad and faculty and staff who have studied and taught abroad to
share their experiences and talk about other cultures. All events are free. Here
is a list of events scheduled to take place:
Monday, Nov. 18:
? 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Music of India in the Fireside
Lounge. Madhu Rao and Gopal Gupta will talk about and play traditional
instruments from India.
? 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Teaching Learning in Costa Rica
in the Senate Forum. Faculty members Jim Knapp and Daniel Harkness will discuss
their experiences in Costa Rica.
? 7-9 p.m.: Japanese/American Celebration in the
Student Union Jordan Ballroom A. Tetsuya Ehara, a Japanese instructor and the
advisor for the Japan Club, will coordinate this celebration in an effort to
bring students from Japan in contact with people who are interested in learning
about Japan or in Japanese culture.
Tuesday, Nov. 19:
? 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Studies Abroad Panel in the
Student Union Cataldo Room. This panel of students who have traveled abroad will
share their experiences about their studies.
? 8 p.m.: "Run Lola Run," a German film with
English subtitles in the Special Events Center. This is a free screening of
the movie, open to all who would like to attend.
Wednesday, Nov. 20:
? 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Fulbright Seminar in the Student
Union Hatch Ballroom B. This is a brown bag lunch event for graduate students
who wish to learn about study abroad opportunities and the Fulbright
Scholarship.
? 11 a.m.-noon: Ethiopian Presentation in the
Fireside Lounge. Sam Greer, a returned Peace Corps volunteer, will share his
experiences in Ethiopia.
? Noon-1 p.m.: Feng Shui in the Fireside Lounge.
Jennifer Pu, an international student from China, will talk about the art of
Feng Shui.
? 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Teaching Abroad in the
Student Union Senate Forum. Faculty member Michael Bixby will discuss his
experiences.
? 7-9 p.m.: Art of India Slide Show and Dance
Performance in the Student Union Brink Room. Ayush Goyal and Gopal Gupta
will give a slide presentation on the art of India. Following will be a dance
performance accompanied by music from India.
Thursday, Nov. 21:
? 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Latin Dance Lesson in the
Fireside Lounge. Nelson Rengifo and Antonio Teruel will present.
Community members, students, faculty and staff are all
invited to attend. These events are sponsored by the International Programs
