BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY AUCTION 2003 TO HONOR
STEVE APPLETON
Boise State University has announced that alumnus and
Micron Technology CEO Steve Appleton and his wife, Dalynn, will be honored May
3, 2003, at the Boise State University Auction. Alumni, boosters, businesses and
interested individuals are asked to donate items, cash and/or services to the
auction.
The Bronco Athletic Association (BAA) and the Boise State
Alumni Association co-sponsor the evening. The BAA will use auction proceeds to
benefit the athletic scholarship endowment fund, while the Alumni Association
will earmark proceeds to fund new scholarships for freshmen and for capital
improvements to the Alumni Center. 2003 marks the 11th Boise State University
Auction. $2.3 million was raised through the first 10 auctions.
Appleton, a 1982 graduate in management, was a member of
the Bronco tennis team from 1979 through 1982. He is known for being extremely
generous to his alma mater and most recently donated almost $2 million to the
university to build the Appleton Tennis Complex, a six-court outdoor tennis
stadium, which opened in the spring of 2002.
The auction has been an every-other-year tradition at
Boise State since its inception in 1983. This coming year’s auction will be on
Saturday, May 3, at the Boise Centre on the Grove. Festivities begin at 4 p.m.,
with a silent auction, dinner and a live auction. Tickets are $100 per person.
