IDAHO ALL-STAR BAND/DIRECTOR SELECTED FOR TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE

David A. Wells, executive director of the Idaho All-Star Marching Band, has been selected from hundreds of applicants from all over the world to represent the state of Idaho in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. on Jan. 1, 2004. Representing the state’s finest high school musicians and color guard personnel, the Idaho All-Star Marching Band was created by Wells, a Boise State University professor and director of the Boise State University Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band.

The Idaho High School All-Star Marching Band and Color Guard will be selecting students in grades 9 - 12 (2003-2004 academic year) for membership in the band. The hope is to have students from every high school in the state. Students wishing to be considered for membership may obtain an application from their school band director or the Idaho All-Star Band office and must submit the application by Feb. 1, 2003.

Over forty years have passed since a band from the state of Idaho has marched in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade. The students and directors will come from all over the state of Idaho and will have the privilege and honor of marching in the world’s best-known parade. The Tournament of Roses Parade will be viewed live by millions of people who line the streets in Pasadena, in addition to a worldwide television audience.

The Idaho All-Star Marching Band made its premier appearance in the 2002 Boise River Festival River Giants Parade, with associate directors Dan North, Madison High School (Rexburg) and Sam Stone, Caldwell High School, along with assistant band directors, Allen Tripp, Blackfoot High School, Steve Klingler, Madison High School, Joel Williams, Fruitland High School, Doug Davis, Eagle Middle School, Jerry Tippets, Mountain Home High School, Steve Floyd, Burley High School, Wayne Millet, Aberdeen High School, Doug Whitten, Boise State, James Harrison, Boise State, Zach Garner, Boise State, Rick Moffit, McQueen High School, and Teresa Kalco, Madison High School.
