The American Piano Duo, consisting of Del Parkinson and
Jeffrey Shumway, will perform a recital at 4 p.m. Sunday Jan. 12 in the Morrison
Center Recital Hall. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for
students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
The program is titled "Immortal Symphonic
Transcriptions" and consists of orchestral works that have been arranged
for two pianos. The three pieces on the program are Mozart’s "Magic Flute
Overture," Ravel’s "Daphnis and Chloe," and Rachmaninoff’s
"Symphonic Dances."
Parkinson and Shumway formed The American Piano Duo in
1984. Parkinson is professor of piano at Boise State University, and Shumway is
head of keyboard studies at Brigham Young University. The American Piano Duo has
performed throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. Their compact disc,
"Celebrating Gershwin!" was released during the centennial year of his
birth. They can also be heard as two of the four pianists on a CD of the
American Piano Quartet. Their newest CD featuring a concerto for two pianos by
Felix Mendelssohn will be released in early 2003.
