BOISE STATE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR MLK DAY SERVICE
PROJECTS
Get involved with the spirit of Martin Luther King
Jr./Idaho Human Rights Day and support the effort to make this day "A Day
on Not a Day Off." Boise State University’s Volunteer Services Board is
sponsoring several service projects involving local agencies on Monday, Jan. 20,
in conjunction with the university’s weeklong celebration, and invites
community members and students to participate. Volunteers will meet between
10:45 and 11 a.m. in the Boise State Student Union Food Court. At 11 a.m., they
will split into groups and travel to a volunteer location to complete a service
project.
Projects are expected to be completed by 3 p.m. and lunch
will be provided. Also, the March to the Capitol ends at 10:30 a.m., so there
will be an opportunity to participate in both events. To participate in a
project, volunteers should call Amy Ulappa at 426-4248 or e-mail her at fvolunt@boisestate.edu.
This year’s projects include painting the interior of
Taft Elementary School, cleaning at the Hayes Shelter Home, organizing at the
Boise Rescue Mission, interacting with residents at Holly Nursing and Rehab
Clinic, Boise Samaritan Village and Hillcrest Rehab and Care Center, and other
volunteer projects.
Boise State Volunteer Services Board and students have
built a reputation of being an active and positive presence in this city and the
Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is an opportunity to uphold and enhance
that image.
