Charity Rally in Support of the CARE Act
Please plan to attend a rally on the Senate steps of the U.S. Capitol
Building on May 2 in support of S. 1924, the Charity Aid, Recovery and
Empowerment Act of 2002.
The CARE Act contains several important tax incentives for charitable
giving, including the IRA Rollover. CASE is working with the White House,
key Senate offices, the National Committee on Planned Giving (NCPG), the
Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and other groups to push the
CARE Act through Congress and have it signed by the President this year.
The rally will feature speeches by the authors of the legislation, Senators
Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) and Rick Santorum (R-PA), along with Jim Towey, the
Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
You will also have time to visit your Senator to urge support for the bill.
The rally will begin on May 2 at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the Senate side
of the Capitol building (North side of the Capitol). Beforehand, members
can get additional information and meet in the Caucus Room of the Russell
Building anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 11:20. We'll be walking over to the
Capitol at approximately 11:20.
Box lunches will be served at 12:15 back in the Russell Caucus Room, and
then any scheduled meetings with Senators and staff will occur in the
afternoon (these are optional but recommended).
We hope you'll spend a couple of hours with CASE and other organizations
showing your support of the CARE Act. If you want to attend, please let us
know so we'll have a good idea of how many lunches to serve. Please contact
CASE at long@case.org. If you have questions, please use that email address
as well.

Directions
The Russell Senate Office Building is located next to the Capital Grounds on
Constitution Avenue. The Russell Caucus Room is located on the first floor.
Traveling by Metro is recommended, as parking on the Capitol grounds will be
difficult. Union Station, a primary Metro and train stop, is just two
blocks north of the Russell Building. For those traveling by car, Union
Station has a parking garage, and there are several other garages in the
area.
