Witty Women Wear Gorilla Masks, Use Humor to Fight Discrimination

The Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous group of female artists, writers, performers and film makers, will address issues of sexism and racism at Boise State University at 7 p.m Saturday, May 3, in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public.

Operating under code names and alter egos, the Guerrilla Girls formed in 1985 when they discovered that the most influential New York City galleries and museums were exhibiting the works of almost no women artists or artists of color. The women, who wear guerilla masks and at times short skirts, high heels and fishnet stockings simply to confound the stereotypes of female sexiness, use humor to examine different aspects of sexism and racism in politics, the art world and our culture at large.

The Guerrilla Girls have spoken to large audiences at museums and schools on four continents and have produced numerous posters, billboards, magazine spreads and bus ads aimed at exposing discrimination.

The event is presented by Boise State Student Programs Board. For more information call 426-1223.
