Boise State Conference Examines Victims' Rights
The biennial Victims’ Rights Week Idaho Crime Victimization Conference: Public and Personal Terror will be held April 22-25 at Boise State University in the Student Union Building. The week is a nationwide, collaborative effort promoting recognition and education for victims. Participants at the Boise State conference will learn about the terror of personal victimization, what the local community has to offer victims and what progress is being made in personal protection.
Sponsored by the Boise State criminal justice department, with support this year from Boise State Affirmative Action, the BSU Women’s Center and Alpha Phi Sigma, the conference offers four power-packed days of free presentations, videos and dramatic productions aimed at changing how the community looks at victimization. Local organizations will present a wide range of topics to help participants better understand the terror faced by victims of personal violence and how to act when faced with terror.
Conference coordinator Katie Orcher said that until faced with a situation of personal terror many people do not realize how victimization can affect their lives. "Victim’s Rights Week 2002 will allows the community to learn about the crimes that are going unnoticed or ignored due to lack of understanding. Knowing how to help can teach people how to act," Orcher said.
This event is free for everyone. Students may take this seminar for elective credit.
