Fiction and poetry penned by nationally known writers and by students enrolled in Boise State University’s master of fine arts program in writing are featured in the latest edition of cold drill, an annual collection that has been an Idaho literary tradition for more than 30 years.
Edited by student Alex Kiesig, cold-drill covers topics ranging from the Rocky Mountains to the Greek gods to a fledgling rock group. This edition carries a 2001 title because it was compiled last school year. In “Charlie Chuck’s Closest to the Pin,” Boise State student Christian Winn spins a tale of a washed-up pro golfer. Representing the poetry portion of the MFA program, Matt Reiter serves up a quintet, “points of interest.” John Wheatcroft, author of seven novels, six volumes of poetry and a play, provides his take on a Hemingway classic in “B/Will/iam/ie and Al and Max and You and I.”
The edition costs $9.95 and is available at the Boise State Bookstore, or for credit card orders dial 1-800-992-8398 ext. 1362. Bound in a large 6- by 9-inch trade paperback format, cold drill is printed on high quality, acid-free paper.
The editors of cold-drill are currently seeking submissions of original prose and poetry for the 2002 edition. There is no word limit. Submit entries with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the editor at cold-drill, Boise State University, Department of English, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID 83725-1525.
