LECTURES, EXHIBITIONS AND ACTIVITIES HERALD WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Boise State University has partnered with the newly formed Cultural Network for a gala celebration of Women’s History Month in March. The Cultural Network is a consortium of museums, libraries, educational institutions and service organizations collaborating to schedule and promote programs and activities.

A full slate of 35 events and nine art exhibitions celebrates the triumphs and accomplishments of ordinary women doing extraordinary things. A complete schedule of events and ticket information can be found at news.boisestate.edu (call 426-3275 for photos). Following are a few highlights:

March 4: "Jane, An Abortion Service," documentary film and lecture. Boise State Special Events Center. 7 p.m. Presented by Student Programs Board. $3 at the door. Call 426-4636.

March 7: Art Talk: Karen Kosasa on the True Grit art exhibit, 5:30 p.m. and "Studio Art Exploration: Media Exploration," 5-8 p.m. Boise Art Museum, 670 Julia Davis Drive. Presented by Boise State art department and BAM. Free. Call 384-4372.

March 8: "Afghan Women Before and After the Taliban," forum. Grove Hotel. Noon. Speaker Yasmin Hamidi-Aguilar from the Agency for New Americans. Presented by the City Club of Boise. Forum is free, lunch is $12 for members, $17 for non-members, reservations required. Call 371-2221.

March 12: Brown Bag Program: Historic Quilts of Idaho — 1825-1990. Idaho State Historical Museum, 610 N. Julia Davis Drive. Noon-1 p.m. Presented by Historical Museum. Free with general admission. Call 334-2120.

March 14: 12th Annual Women of Today and Tomorrow Awards Luncheon, featuring keynote speaker Mary Pipher. Boise Centre on The Grove. Noon-1:30 p.m. by Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council. $35. Call 377-2011, Ext. 115. No tickets will be sold at the door.

March 14: Meet the Artist: C. Maxx Stevens. Boise Art Museum, 670 Julia Davis Drive 5:30 p.m. Presented by BAM. Free with general admission. Call 384-4372.

March 15: "Mahalia: A Gospel Musical." Morrison Center. 8 p.m. This presentation serves as the keynote performance for Women’s History Month 2002. Presented by the Boise State Women’s Center. $8 students; $14 faculty/staff; $19 general; group discounts available for 10 or more. Through Select-A-Seat, 426-1494.

March 19: "The Women’s Holocaust: The European Witch Hunts," lecture. Student Union Farnsworth Room. 6 p.m. Presented by the Boise State Women’s Center. Free. Call 426-4259.

March 22: Dramatic Reading with Idaho Theater For Youth, passages from The Diary of Anne Frank and Zlata’s Diary. Ada Community Library, 10664 W. Victory Road. 7 p.m. Presented by ACL. Free. Call 362-0181.

March 23: "Helen Thayer: The First Woman to Solo Any of the World’s Poles," lecture. Discovery Center of Idaho, 131 Myrtle St. 2 p.m. Presented by DCI. Free with museum admission. Call 343-9895.

March 28: "Mary Hallock Foote’s Idaho," by Judy Austin of the Idaho Historical Society. Boise Public Library, 715 S, Capitol Blvd. 7-9:30 p.m. Presented by BPL with funding from Boise Cascade Corporation and the Idaho Humanities Council. Free. Call 384-4372.
