CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH MUSIC, FILM AND DISCUSSIONS
Boise State University’s Black Student Alliance and Cultural Center have collaborated to provide music, film, poetry and other educational activities in celebration of Black History Month in February. The monthlong commemoration will include the following events:
 | Gospel music workshop and concert, Saturday, Feb. 2 at Boise State Special Events Center. The workshop, which runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and concert, which begins at 7 p.m., will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about a powerful musical genre while experiencing the passion of a rich cultural heritage through music. The event is presented by the Idaho Black History Museum and Boise State Black Student Alliance. Tickets range from $5-$15 and are available at the door.  | The mini-series "Roots" will be presented at 5:30 p.m Feb. 5 (Part I), Feb. 12 (Part II) and Feb. 19 (Part III) at the Student Union Bergquist Lounge. Free admission. |
 | Literature enthusiasts gather for "Poetry of the African Diaspora," African American poetry readings, at 7 p.m., Feb. 7, 14, 21 at JD and Friends, 16th and Main streets. |
 | "Roots & Reparations: Making Amends for Slavery," a facilitated discussion lead by English professor Marcy Newman and the Black Student Alliance at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Student Union Bergquist Lounge, following the final "Roots" segment. |
 | "AIDS in Africa," a panel discussion by local physicians, Boise State professors and Boise State students who have conducted research in Africa, will address the AIDS epidemic from political, historical, social and economic perspectives at 7 p.m Feb. 26 at the Student Union Hatch D Ballroom. Free admission. |
 | "The Black Experience in the Music Industry." Portland rap artist Cool Nutz and Dominique Halls, owner of Too Real Records, will discuss the history of rap as well as their own experiences in the music industry at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Student Union Farnsworth Room. Free admission. |
