KLAUTSCH RECEIVES ARTS AND SCIENCES AWARD
Richard Klautsch, who has been involved in 20 Idaho Shakespeare Festival productions and serves as chairman of the theatre arts department at Boise State University, was named the 2001 recipient of the university�s College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Research/Creativity Award.
Klautsch is a mainstay of the Idaho arts community. A principal Equity actor with the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, he performed the roles of Salieri, Mozart�s nemesis in "Amadeus," and the Ghost/Player King in "Hamlet" in the 2001 season. Last winter he took on the role of the poetic drifter, Lee, in Sam Shepard�s "True West" at the Boise Contemporary Theatre. Since 1986, he has starred in 36 productions, often in a leading role, in Idaho, the Midwest and off-Broadway.
Klautsch has also directed 21 productions, including a production of Ibsen�s "A Doll�s House" that was chosen to be a showcase production at the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival in Washington, D.C. in 2000. His directorial work has ranged from "HMS Pinafore" to "Cabaret," "Grapes of Wrath" and "Mother Courage and Her Children."
In addition to chairing the theatre arts department since 1998, Klautsch teaches acting, cinema history and theatre management.
He has appeared in television promotions for KBCI Channel 2 and public service announcements concerning teenage alcohol abuse for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. His voice has provided narration for the James Castle Idaho Public Television documentary and for numerous advertisements and public service announcements for Hewlett Packard, Micron, Intermountain Gas and others.
