BOISE STATE FEATURES ART WORK BY SUSAN LATTA IN "NOT FOR SALE"
"Not For Sale," a showcasing of steel sculptures by local artist Susan Latta, will run Jan. 11-Feb. 1 at the Boise State University Student Union Gallery.
Latta fuses her sculptures with a blend of materials such as steel, copper, brass, glass, fabric, paper and plastic. She describes her artmaking as an evolutionary process in which the materials dictate the end result. "Each piece seems to become what it wanted to be all along, I am just the tool that allows it to get there," Latta says.
The title, "Not For Sale," is intended to call into question the line that society draws between "starving artist" and "sell out." Latta also hopes it will expand the viewer’s ideas about art and the goals of the artist.
A reception will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at the gallery. The reception, which is free and open to the public, is an opportunity for people to meet Latta and ask questions about her work. The Student Union Gallery is located on the upper level of the Student Union. The exhibition is sponsored by Student Union and Activities. For more information about the event call 426-1223.
