FIVE BOISE STATE STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR BPA NATIONAL COMPETITION

Natasha Baltzor of Boise, a business technology major in the Selland College of Applied Technology, took first place in Payroll Accounting, second in Spreadsheet Applications and fourth in Advanced Word Processing Skills to take top honors among Boise State students who participated in the state competition of the Business Professionals of America (BPA).

Baltzor and four fellow students qualified for BPA’s national competition at the organization’s National Leadership Conference, which will be held in Chicago May 8-12. The national competition annually attracts more than 3,000 secondary and postsecondary students interested in the business, office professional and technology fields. At last year’s national event Baltzor was fourth in Spreadsheet Applications and Analysis and 12th in Basic Office Systems & Procedures.

Also qualifying for the national competition were April Cooper of Boise, who was third in Fundamental Word Processing Skills, fifth in Basic Office Systems and in the top 90 percent of the competitors in Administrative Support Concepts; Melissa Frey of Castleford, who was third in Legal Office Procedures; Marisa Santos of Eagle, who was fourth in Fundamental Accounting and Keyboarding Production and in the top 90 percent of Financial Math and Analysis; and Nikki Smith of Kuna, who was second in Keyboarding Production and in the top 90 percent of Financial Math and Analysis.

Also finishing in the top 90 percent of Financial Math and Analysis were Boise State students Ken Roberts and Mike Selvig of Boise and Leivi Ramirez of Nampa. Selvig also took seventh place in Verbal Prepared II.
