THE AMERICAN BRASS QUINTET COMES TO BOISE APRIL 10-12

The American Brass Quintet will perform two concerts ranging in styles from Renaissance to contemporary American music April 10-12. The group will also present a full range of activities, including master classes and open rehearsals. Times, ticket prices and locations vary.

The quintet, which has been hailed by Newsweek magazine as “the high priests of brass,” has performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. Founded in 1960, the American Brass Quintet celebrated its 40th anniversary last season and is the longest continuously performing brass quintet in North America.

Current members include Raymond Mase and Kevin Cobb, trumpets; David Wakefield, horn; Michael Powell, trombone; and John Rojak, bass trombone.

The schedule includes the following events:

Wednesday, April 10

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. at the Special Events Center. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for seniors, students and Boise State faculty, staff and alumni and are available at Select-a Seat, 426-1766 or www.idahotickets.com. Sponsored by Boise State Student Union and Activities and Boise Chamber Music Society.

Thursday, April 11

10-11:30 a.m.–Open rehearsal at the Morrison Center.
12:40-1:30 p.m.–Performance and discussion at the Morrison Center Recital Hall.
1:40-2:30 p.m.–Roundtable discussion about careers for brass players at Morrison Center Recital Hall.
2:40-4:30 p.m.–High/low brass master class. Call 426-3980 for location information.
4:40-6 p.m.–Brass quintet master class. Call 426-3980 for location information.

Friday, April 12

3:40-5:30 p.m.–Orchestral audition master class. Call 426-3980 for location information.
8 p.m–Performance at Morrison Center Main Hall. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for seniors and students. This is the final concert of the Boise Chamber Music Series.

The three-day event is sponsored by Boise State music department, Boise State Student Union and Activities and Boise Chamber Music Society. For more information about the concerts or classes call 426-1216.
