“FORGOTTEN FACES” ADDRESSES HOMELESSNESS IN BOISE

Students strive to boost community awareness and volunteerism toward the homeless with “Forgotten Faces: Perspectives on Homelessness,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom at Boise State University. Tickets are $3 or $2 with a can of food and can be purchased in advance through Select-a-Seat at 426-1766.

“The event has been modeled after the Holocaust Museum,” said Jason McFarlane, student and special events coordinator for Boise State Student Programs Board. Each person will receive a passport with a new identity. Later in the evening, there will be role-playing activities in which participants encounter scenarios that homeless people experience on a daily basis.

Before sampling an array of food typically served in homeless shelters, participants can peruse exhibits featuring various perspectives of homelessness. There will also be a panel of guest speakers and representatives from local agencies such as Boise Rescue Mission and Community House. At the end of the evening, there will be an opportunity for people to sign up for volunteer hours at local homeless shelters and other organizations committed to helping the homeless.

The event is co-sponsored by Boise State Student Programs Board and Boise State Volunteer Services Board. For more information call 426-1223.
