CLASSICAL GUITARIST PLAYS EARLY MUSIC AND PERIOD INSTRUMENTS

The Boise State University Guitar society will present David Rogers, a classical guitarist and recording artist famed for authenticity on period instruments, in concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday March 22, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Admission at the door is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. A free master class will be offered from 11 a.m-1 p.m., Saturday March 23, also in the Morrison Center Recital Hall.
Rogers focuses his programs on music performed on period instruments, such as the vihuela, the archlute and the 19th-century guitar. He is well versed in the styles of early music, having earned a master’s degree in performance practice and historical plucked strings from Oakland University and having completed doctoral work at Indiana University.
Rogers teaches classical and jazz guitar and lute at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. He plays lead guitar and lute in the Terra Nova Consort, the ensemble in residence at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He regularly tours with the ensemble and plays at early music festivals.
