TENOR SOLOIST PERFORMS WITH BOISE MASTER CHORALE

Tenor soloist David Sievers, a former Boise resident who directed the Boise State University Chamber Singers and the music program at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Boise, is returning to town to perform Rachmaninoff’s "Vespers" with the Boise Master Chorale. The Chorale will offer three performances — at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22 and 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, both at St. John’s Cathedral, 775 N. 8th St; and at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at St. Michael’s Cathedral, 518 N. 8th St.

Sievers is pursuing doctoral studies in voice at Indiana University, where he studies with Gary Lakes. Sievers sang with Spokane Opera during its 2000 season as The Beadle in "Sweeney Todd" and Goro in "Madama Butterfly" and with Washington East Opera (WEO) in productions of "Showboat," "The Magic Flute," "Gallantry," "Die Fledermaus" and as a soloist in two gala concerts. He also sang the role of Nanki-Poo in Richland Light Opera Company’s 50th anniversary production of "The Mikado." He recently appeared with WEO in "Carmen" as El Remendado and in Indiana University’s production of Smetana’s "The Bartered Bride."

Sievers is also an active choral conductor, serving as chorus master for WEO from 1997-2000. He founded the Columbia Basin Youth Honors Chorus, a select ensemble of high school students, which he conducted for three years.

Sievers earned a master’s degree in music from Boise State in 1996 and a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University in 1994. While at Boise State he was selected to perform at the music department Chair’s Honors Recital in 1995 and 1996, and he served as a graduate assistant for choral, voice and music education. He was also a gold medalist in 1998 and 1999 in the Greater Spokane Music and Allied Arts Festival, Young Artist Division, was chosen as the Ildebrando Pizzetti Memorial Scholar at Indiana University and sang as guest soloist with the Carolina Catholic Chorale for Pope John Paul II on January 1, 1998, at a Papal Mass.
