Boise State's Canyon County Center Named Business of the Year
The Boise State University Canyon County Center has been named Business of the Year by the Nampa Chamber of Commerce. Boise State President Charles Ruch accepted the award at the Chamber’s annual banquet May 14.
The Canyon County Center has evolved over the past 15 years from a small presence operating out of a partially remodeled Boise Cascade building to a modern 77,000-square foot educational facility. In 1985, the Center offered a handful of academic courses, four applied technology programs and a few adult basic education and outreach classes. It now offers associate of arts and associate of science degrees, all the core classes required for a bachelor’s degree, eight applied technology programs and greatly expanded adult education and outreach programs. Last year the Center served 6,700 people.
In addition, the Center serves as a voting location for Canyon County, a blood drive location for the Red Cross and a meeting place for the Chamber of Commerce. The Center also hosts meetings of the Job Service Employers Council, the Boy Scouts of America, the Department of Health and Welfare and the Department of Corrections, among others.
Boise State University looks forward to even better serving the community with the development of its new campus near the Idaho Center. For more information on the Canyon County Center, contact center director Dennis Griffin at 426-4700.
