Boise State Lacrosse Player Selected for USA West All-Star Team
Lacrosse player Brian Sanderson, a sophomore in the Boise State University pre-architecture program, was recently selected to play for the USA West All-Star Team, which will travel to the Far East later this month. The squad was put together to give players from schools that don’t field varsity lacrosse programs an opportunity to compete at the national and international level.
Sanderson, a Boise resident, has played for the Boise State men’s lacrosse club team for the last three years. Led by Sanderson, the Broncos recently won the Division II Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Lacrosse League championship.
Sanderson was selected from more than 300 nominees to be a part of the 21-member team, which will travel to China and Japan to compete in the Beijing Cup and the 13th annual Friendship Games.
The USA West team will not only engage in cultural exchanges, but its members will also conduct clinics for children and scrimmage teams going to the World Games. Their opponents will include various collegiate-level teams from China and Japan as well as the Japanese national team. The USA West All Stars will be in Beijing May 30-June 5, in Tokyo June 5-11, and in Osaka, Japan, June 12-17.
All members of the USA West team have to pay their own way, and Sanderson has raised $1,500 of the required $2,700 he needs for meals, lodging and airfare. Donations can be made to the men’s lacrosse account of the BSU Foundation.
