Boise State Dean Selected as 'Peacemaker of the Year'

The Idaho Mediation Association (IMA) has selected Suzanne McCorkle, interim dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs at Boise State University, as its Peacemaker of the Year for Idaho.

McCorkle will be honored Friday, June 14, at the Dispute Resolution Conference held at in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom at Boise State; an IMA awards banquet will be held at 7 that evening in the Student Union Lookout Room.

The IMA created the Peacemaker of the Year Award to honor a person who has contributed to the promotion of mediation as an alternate dispute resolution process. McCorkle was the primary sponsor of Boise State’s Dispute Resolution Program in 1992 and has been the director since then, overseeing a certificate program in which students learn negotiation and mediation skills to be applied in the public arena.

In addition, McCorkle has been instrumental in the creation of mediation programs in Ada, Boise and Canyon counties and in many other areas throughout the state. She has published numerous articles relating to mediation and presented papers at conventions throughout the country and has been a panelist and keynote speaker at numerous conventions on dispute resolution and conflict management. She has been a major supporter of the IMA since its inception in 1986.
