Terrorism, Civil Liberties Topics of Final 'Renaissance' Seminars
“Middle East and the U.S.: Origins of Terrorism” is the final seminar installment and “Protecting Civil Liberties in Post 9/11 America” is the final lecture of the spring semester Renaissance Institute.
Michael Zirinsky, a Boise State history professor, will discuss the Middle East from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, May 9, at the Flicks Theater, 646 Fulton St. Cost for members is $40 for the full series, of which this is the last installment. Jack Van Valkenburgh, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho, will speak on civil liberties from 10 a.m.-noon May 9, also at the Flicks. Cost is $10 general admission or free for members.
The Renaissance Institute, sponsored by the Division of Extended Studies, is geared to learners aged 50 and beyond. Working in conjunction with community organizations, the Institute offers short-term seminars and a current issues lecture series designed to meet the educational interests of mature adults who don’t want to commit to a traditional semester-long class.
