TUBA AND BRASS INSTRUMENTS FEATURED AT THREE
BOISE STATE CONCERTS
From a professional tuba artist playing music from
Azerbaijan to up-and-coming high school players, three concerts will feature a
wide variety of music performed by tuba and brass instrumentalists. The concerts
are hosted by the Boise State University music department and will be in the
Morrison Center Recital Hall.
As part of the 2003 Northwest Tuba-Euphonium Symposium,
the Boise Philharmonic Brass Quintet will give a recital from 2:30-3:20 p.m.
Jan. 25. The ensemble includes Brad Peters, Dennis Keck, Pam Howard, George
Turner and Michael Fischer.
At 7:30 p.m., also on Jan. 25,
the Symposium’s guest tuba artist and clinician, Skip Gray, will perform at a
concert that also includes Boise State tuba professor Michael Fischer, the Boise
State Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble and the 2003 Northwest High School All-Star Tuba
Euphonium Ensemble. The All-Star Ensemble will include high school students from
Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
The third concert, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31, will
feature guest tuba artist Kenyon Wilson, currently a Fulbright Scholar teaching
at the Baku Music Academy in Azerbaijan. Wilson, who earned a doctorate in music
from the University of Georgia, will teach at Central Michigan University after
he completes his work in Azerbaijan. Wilson’s program will include music
culturally reflective of Azerbaijan, as well as pieces by American composers.
Tickets for each concert are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors
and free for students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. For more
