V-DAY BOISE STATE FEATURES ‘VAGINA MONOLOGUES’
For the third year straight, Boise State University will
present "The Vagina Monologues" as part of the V-Day College Campaign.
The show runs at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 and 15, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 in the Student
Union Special Events Center. Tickets, available through Select-a-Seat beginning
Jan. 23, are $12 general and $6 for students. Matinee tickets are $10 and $5
respectively.
"The Vagina Monologues" is part of a nationwide
initiative involving college- and university-sponsored productions. The
productions are a part of the V-Day campaign to end sexual violence against
women and proclaim Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate women and end abuse.

The play is a series of monologues based on interviews by
playwright Eve Ensler with a diverse group of hundreds of real women. Three new
monologues will debut this year, two of them written by Boise State English
professor Tom Peele and former Boise State student Lauren Tweedy. The third
dialigue was written by Ensler. Although dialogue includes frank language and
adult content, organizers hope it will be a catalyst for increased
understanding. Twenty actors, a mixture of Boise State students, staff and
community members, comprise the cast. Jennifer Dunn, who has worked with the New
Heritage Theatre, is director.
The production premiered off-Broadway in 1998 and has
featured an array of big-name stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Calista Flockhart,
Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, and Brooke Shields.
