A theatrical production looking at Mexican American farmworkers’
struggle for rights will be presented at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in
the Boise State University Student Union Hatch Ballroom. “Living
Voices – La Causa” is free and open to everyone as part of Boise
State’s Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Celebration week
activities.
In the late 1960s, Mexican American farmworkers struggled for civil
rights and battled racism and poor working conditions. “La Causa”
looks at how a few brave workers changed their own lives and the lives
of all American workers. The production follows the life of one young
woman as she balances the demands of her family and culture with the
fight to help free her people from poverty.
Living Voices is a
non-profit educational theater arts organization that uses theater and
media to bring watershed moments in history to life from the viewpoint
of ordinary young people. Programs, which combine live performance with
video, audio and discussion, have been presented throughout Canada and
the United States.
The Boise State
University Student Union and the Idaho Human Rights Education Center are
sponsors of the event. For a complete list of Human Rights Celebration
