BOISE STATE PROFESSOR WINS AWARD FOR MUSICAL COMPOSITION

Professor Giselle Wyers, Director of Choral Activities at Boise State University, has won the Cambridge Madrigal Singers Annual Composition Competition. Her composition, Ave Maria, was chosen from a pool of 70 applicants from 10 countries. The piece, which she composed in August 2002, was premiered by the Boise State Meistersingers at the Idaho American Choral Directors Association retreat in Sun Valley this past fall.

The Cambridge Madrigal Singers, a 40 voice semi-professional chorus under the direction of Raymond Fahrner, has sponsored this competition for the past six years with support from the Massachusetts Choral Council. Wyers will be awarded a prize of $500, and her work will be performed twice this May by the Cambridge Madrigal Singers as part of their annual concert series in the Boston area.
