SEVENTH ANNUAL GOSPEL MUSIC WORKSHOP AND CONCERT
SET FOR FEB. 1
The seventh annual Gospel Music Workshop and Concert,
presented by the Idaho Black History Museum and Boise State University’s Black
Student Alliance, will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at Boise State’s Jordan
Ballroom and will kick off Black History Month events.
The workshop runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m with registration at
8:30 a.m. The concert will follow, beginning at 7 p.m. Workshop costs are $15
general admission and $10 for Idaho Black History Museum members, seniors,
students and children 12 and under. Concert tickets are $10 general admission
and $8 for members, seniors, students and children.
The workshop will be directed by Tim Poston, musician
coordinator for the Gospel Music Workshop of America, and assisted by Nathan
Johnson, named "Best Pianist" at the 1996 Gospel Academy Music Awards.
Sharon Poston and Darlene Johnson will co-direct. The four have traveled to
Boise from the San Francisco Bay Area to direct this workshop for the past seven
years.
The public is invited to participate in this educational
workshop. It is not necessary to know how to read music, and attendees will have
the opportunity to learn about a powerful musical genre and experience the
passion and majesty of a rich cultural heritage through the music. For those who
are unable to attend the workshop, the concert will also offer a rich cultural
experience.
