Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. He received his Ph.D. in history from
Mississippi State University, pursued post-postdoctoral studies at Jesus College
at Oxford University, and is a former Fulbright Fellow. He has served as a
legislative assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives and has worked in
private industry as well as in higher education. In the field of extended
studies, he has served as director of the Office of Distance Learning at the
University of Washington, as associate dean of the School of Extended Studies at
Portland State University, and as executive director of the Division of
Continuing Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University. Stockstill has
extensive experience in distance education, credit and non-credit programming,
