The Boise State University Trombone Choir has
been chosen to perform at the National Association for Music Educators
All-Northwest music conference on Saturday, Feb.15, in Portland, Ore. The choir
is the only ensemble chosen from an Idaho university or college one of only
three groups from Idaho selected by audition to perform at the conference.
The Trombone Choir will perform two arrangements
by Boise State music professor David Mathie, the "Fanfare for
Paratroopers" by American composer Paul Creston and four madrigals
by17th-century German composer Hans Leo Hassler. Other works on the program will
be Saint-Saen’s "Adagio" from "Symphony No. 3," Gabrieli’s
"Sonata Piano e Forte" and Erik Ewazen’s "Fantasy and Double
Fugue."
The Boise State Trombone Choir is an ensemble of
thirteen tenor and bass trombones, playing both original and transcribed works
for multiple trombone ensemble. The group is comprised of Boise State music
majors and rehearses once a week. It is conducted by Mathie, professor of
trombone and associate chair of the music department. The ensemble presents
several concerts throughout the year featuring classical and popular programs.
