RELIGIOUS POLITICS THE THEME OF COMMUNITY DISCUSSION

Activist Andrew Rice will make a presentation and lead an open discussion on "Religious Politicization and our Communities" from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6. The event will be held at the Hyde Park Mennonite Fellowship at 1520 N. 12th St. and is open to the public. Admission is a donation to cover the cost of the room.

Rice, of Houston, Texas, received his master of theological studies from Harvard University Divinity School in 1999. He is a board member of September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows and speaks regularly as a proponent for a restorative non-violent response to 9-11. His older brother David was killed in the 2001 World Trade Center terrorist attacks. He also works for the non-profit "Texas Freedom Network," which counters the influence of religious extremism on politics and organizes religious leaders to speak out in favor of compassionate and inclusive democratic communities.

This event is sponsored by the Boise State University School of Social Work and the Idaho NASW Peace and Justice Committee. Continuing education credit for social workers is available through Boise State. For more information, call 426-1780.
