BOISE STATE HONORS THREE STUDENT LEADERS

The following student leaders were honored at Boise State University’s Leadership Quest conference held Friday, Feb. 28. Leadership Quest is a daylong series of training workshops that facilitates an emerging leader’s introduction to concepts of leadership theory, furthers personal development and refines organizational skills.

Richard Hachtel of Nampa, a senior majoring in political science, was awarded the 2003 President’s Award. This award is presented for contribution to the general welfare of Boise State through outstanding leadership and service without regard for recognition.

Hachtel is a Rhoades Scholar candidate, a lobbyist for the Associated Students of Boise State University (ASBSU), a member of the Political Science Association and the Honors College and was a College Bowl participant in both 2001 and 2002.

Matt Vander Boegh of Homedale, a senior majoring in communication with a minor in music, was awarded the 2003 Director’s Award. This award is presented for outstanding leadership, commitment and service toward the betterment of student organizations, activities and programs at Boise State.

Vander Boegh is an ASBSU senator, serves on the Residence Hall Association and Morrison/Driscoll Hall Council, is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Boise State Men’s Chorus, Boise State Spirit Squad and Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band, and was on the dean’s list in 1999 and 2000.

 

Jude Apuri Sawine of Ghana, West Africa, a freshman majoring in biology, was awarded the 2003 Dr. Larry G. Selland Leadership Award. This award is presented for involvement in student life at Boise State.

Sawine is a member of the Black Student Alliance, the International Student Association, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, St. Paul’s Catholic Student Group and Societas Biophilia (biology club), is a Kappa Sigma pledge and is a Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer.
