BOISE STATE OFFERS SUMMER ACADEMIC, SPORTS AND MUSIC CAMPS FOR YOUTH

Each summer, hundreds of elementary- through high school- age children sharpen their academic, music and athletic skills at Boise State University summer programs. Here is the schedule of activities and camps for 2003. Each sports camp has a different registration deadline, so please call the number listed or check the Web site indicated to confirm the deadline.

JUNE 8-13

Idaho Engineering Science Camp. For students entering ninth or 10th grade. Sponsored by Boise State College of Engineering. $375, includes campus housing. Applications due May 1. For application call 426-3764.

JUNE 9-11

Little Broncos girls basketball camp. For ages 6-10. $100. Call 426-1952 or register online at www.broncosports.com/sportscamps.asp.

JUNE 11-13

Bronco girls basketball fundamentals camp. For ages 10-14. $200 day camp, $240 with lodging. Call 426-1952 or register online at www.broncosports.com/sportscamps.asp.

JUNE 9-13

Bronco soccer day camp. For girls and boys ages 9 through high school. $150. Call 426-5425 or register online at www.broncosports.com/sportscamps.asp.

Chamber Music Camp, Morrison Center. Junior high and high school musicians. Presented by Boise State music department. Curriculum includes chamber ensembles, music theory, camp choir, opera theater and master classes in string, woodwind, percussion, keyboard, brass, vocal, jazz and more. $170 tuition. Housing is $20/day or $100/week, plus meals. Deadline for application is May 22. Call 426-1596 or 426-1421.

JUNE 9-21

Summer DanceFest 2003

Morrison Center. Two weeks of workshops for dancers ages 12 and up at an intermediate/advanced to advanced technique level. A complete curriculum in ballet, jazz, modern and choreography taught by internationally known instructors. Series of public performances at the end of the workshop featuring works by DanceFest faculty and guest choreographers. Presented by Boise State theatre arts department. JUNE 9-27

Boise State summer youth sports programs. Basketball, bowling, gymnastics, karate, lacrosse, pocket billiards, racquetball, rock climbing, soccer, swimming, table tennis, tennis and weight training. Ages: swimming 5-14, gymnastics 6-14, billiards 10-14, all others 8-14. Cost $40-$50 per activity. Registration begins April 26 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. in Boise State Kinesiology Building, Room 215 and continues Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. beginning April 28 in Room 209. Call 426-4270.

JUNE 9 - JULY 11

Boise State Summer Academy, throughout campus. For children entering second-sixth grades. A daily five-week program including computer skills, arts and crafts, academic enrichment of the basic elementary curriculum, field trips and swimming. A Monday-Thursday adventure/science-based academy will debut for students entering seventh and eighth grades. Presented by Boise State Center for School Improvement. JUNE 23-25

JULY 13-15

JULY 13-18

JULY 14-18

Cavalcade USA (Marching Band Camp), Bronco Stadium. For students entering ninth-12th grades and band directors. Includes workshops for drum majors, percussionists, color guard/flag corps and directors. Hours vary between 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Cost: $70 tuition, plus $100 for meals and housing for those staying on campus. Deadline for registration is June 23. Call 426-1846.

JULY 14-AUG. 1

AUG. 4-8
