BOISE STATE APRIL MUSIC CONCERTS OFFER RANGE OF SOUNDS

The Boise State University music department offers an April jam-packed with nine concerts ranging from original percussion pieces to classic works for symphony. Here is the schedule. For more information on any of these concerts, call 426-3980.

April 4, Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. � Academy of St. Giles

�If the Face is Pale,� an evening of late medieval and Renaissance music from the Academy of St. Giles ensemble, featuring several versions of the popular 15th-century song �Se la Face ay Pale� as well as works by Dufay, Grimace, Malvezzi, Caccini and others. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

April 5, Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. � Faculty Artist Series, Lynn Berg and Del Parkinson

Baritone Lynn Berg and pianist Del Parkinson present an evening of songs by the late-19th century Austrian composer Hugo Wolf. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

April 11, Morrison Center Room B-125. 7:30 p.m. � Percussion Ensemble

This performance by Boise State�s percussion ensemble features original music ranging from Anthony Cirone�s �Japanese Impressions� through William Kraft�s �Suite for Keyboard Percussion.� Other works will be performed by various percussion duos, trios and quartets. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

April 12, Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. � Jana Jae and Matthew Grief

World-renowned fiddler Jana Jae and her son, guitarist Matthew Grief, in a concert of classical works, bluegrass and jazz favorites. $15 general, $7.50 seniors and students of all ages.

April 13, Hemingway Center. 7:30 p.m. � Faculty Brass Quintet

The Faculty Brass Quintet, consisting of Marcellus Brown (trumpet), Michael Fischer (tuba), David Mathie (trombone), Brad Peters (trumpet) and David Saunders (horn), will perform transcriptions

and original works for brass quintet by Ewazen, Scheidt, Lutoslawski and Jones. Admission is $5

general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

April 18-19, Morrison Center Recital Hall. 8 p.m. � Boise Chamber Music Series, Musica Pacifica

Join baroque ensemble Musica Pacifica for �Continental Breakfast: A Smorgasbord of Early Music,� featuring works by Boismortier, Bach, Matteis, Paisible, Handel, Corelli and Vivaldi. The performance is part of the Boise Chamber Music Series. The group will also present a free mini-concert and discussion at 10:30 a.m. April 19. Admission to the evening concert is $15 general, $10 students and seniors. Call 426-1216 for tickets and information.

April 27, Morrison Center Main Hall. 4 p.m. � Symphonic Winds

A program of English and American music featuring two of the great works written for symphonic band in the 20th century, Paul Hindemith�s �Symphony in B-flat� and Gustav Holst�s �First Suite in E-flat.� John King will be featured as the guest conductor. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.

April 28, Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7 p.m. � Idaho Flute Society Recital

Flute choirs include Silverwinds, a middle school flute choir, Flute Flight, a high school choir and The Happy Wanderers, adult flutists. Free.

The Idaho Flute Society and Boise State will also present Flute Day 2003 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Morrison Center. Flutists of all ages are invited to attend free workshops and master classes. Guest artist Zart Dombourian-Eby will present a flute and piccolo recital at 1 p.m. in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Dombourian-Eby is a world-renowned soloist and is currently the piccoloist in the Seattle Symphony. This event is made possible by support from the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Admission to the recital is $5 general, $3 for seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff. Call 427-1217 for more information.

April 29, First Presbyterian Church, 950 W. State St. 7:30 p.m. Boise State Choral Concert

Enjoy pieces in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, along with uplifting spirituals and Russian sacred works, sung by Boise State�s five choirs: University Singers, Women�s Chorale, Men�s Chorus, Meistersingers and Chamber Singers. Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty and staff.
