IDAHO DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS FAST FORWARD APRIL 25-26

Idaho Dance Theatre will present four world premieres of intriguing new dances to music ranging from Prokofiev to Zap Mama, the Balanescu Quartet and Chanticleer. Fast Forward will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the Boise State University Special Events Center.

Tickets are $10-$22 and are available through Select-a-Seat outlets, 426-1494 or www.idahotickets.org. Free parking is available in the Liberal Arts and Library parking lots next to the Special Events Center.

On the program:

Marla Hansens Calculate, performed to original music by the Balanescu Quartet, takes a humorous look at the influences of pop culture and technology in our society today. This quirky, lighthearted dance features the whole company with the women on pointe performing a blend of ballet and fashion modeling.

Carl Rowe presents two pieces. The first, set to the music of Zap Mama, portrays a sense of freedom as it moves from hip to goofy to fun. The lighthearted music is an eclectic mix of African, blues and avant garde influences. His second piece, set to music based on the text of an e.e. cummings poem and sung by the all-male chorus Chanticleer, reminds us to slow down and appreciate the people and beauties of the life around us. It looks at loss, remembrance and the ever-changing nature of life.

Finally, senior company member Thax von Reither will premiere a new ballet set to the music of Prokofiev that will take audience members on a journey into those mysterious in between places how big is the space between black and white, where does the line between right and wrong begin and end, and what is the distance between familiar and strange? Woven into the choreography are the themes of conformity, pushing the envelope and uniqueness.

The performance is sponsored by Key Bank, KTRV-Fox TV, Southwest Airlines and Farmers & Merchants Bank. For more information about the performance call managing director Debra Steur at 331-9592.
