APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR 2003 IDAHO ENGINEERING SCIENCE CAMP

Applications are being accepted for the seventh annual Idaho Engineering Science Camp for students entering ninth or 10th grade next fall. Sponsored by the Boise State College of Engineering, IESC 2003 will be held from June 8-13 on the Boise State campus.

Approximately 40 future engineers from Idaho and other states will participate in a weeklong adventure into engineering and science. The students will participate in a variety of events — lab exercises, project design, construction field trips, computer exercises, guest speakers, recreational activities, competitions and more. Hands-on activities and engineering projects will focus on self-discovery, critical thinking and problem solving with emphases on communication skills and teamwork. Participants will have an opportunity to experience the campus, work with faculty and learn about college life as well as career planning.

The cost of the engineering science camp is $375. Partial or full scholarships will be available for qualified participants.

The primary criteria for selection of students is an interest in discovering career possibilities in the fields of engineering and science. No specific course work preparation is required. The program is open to students from all backgrounds; minority applicants, girls and ethnic groups underrepresented in engineering and the sciences are encouraged to apply.

In addition to Boise State University, the program is supported by private foundations and industry sponsors including Micron Technology, Eagle Precast, Kreizenbeck Constructors, Kleinfelder, B&A Engineers, Power Engineers, Idaho Power, Extended Systems, Bechtel/INEEL/BBWI, American Society of Civil Engineers (southern Idaho section) and United Water Idaho.

The faculty program director is Joseph Sener, professor of civil engineering. For more information or an application please contact Sener at (208) 426-4814 or jsener@boisestate.edu; or assistant program director Kristi Lakatos at (208) 426-1450 or klakatos@boisestate.edu.
