World-renowned fiddler Jana Jae and her son, guitarist
Matthew Grief, will perform in a concert of classical works, bluegrass and jazz
favorites at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12 in the Morrison Center Recital Hall.
Admission is $15 general and $7.50 seniors and students of all ages.
The program will include a number of classical works by
Weiss, Lauro, York, Morel, J.S. Bach, Villa-Lobos, Mozart and Piazzolla, as well
as jazz and bluegrass favorites. The duo will be joined by Bette Hopper on
violin and Joe Hopper and Boise State music professor Joe Baldassarre on guitar.
Growing up in Weiser, Jae was introduced to the classical
study of violin at age 2, and also became a champion fiddler, winning the Ladies
National Championship several times. She continued her classical training at
Interlochen and the Vienna Academy of Music. She got her big break at a Buck
Owens concert in Redding, Calif., when she was invited to take the stage and
play “Orange Blossom Special.” She was later offered a job as the first
female member of Owen’s “Buckaroos” band. She later became part of the
regular team of performers on the “Hee Haw” television show and has appeared
with several country music greats.
