GENE HARRIS FESTIVAL KICK-OFF PARTY MOVED INDOORS
DUE TO WEATHER
The Gene Harris Jazz Festival Kick-off party will take
place inside the Boise Centre on the Grove from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April
3. The event was planned for outdoors but moved inside in anticipation of
inclement weather.
The free event gets the Festival started with a concert by
the Boise State Big Band and other special guests. Food and drinks will be
available.
The 6th annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival continues through
Saturday, April 6.
The schedule is as follows:
Thursday, April 3, Club Night, 5-11
p.m., downtown Boise. Eleven venues will be filled with a variety of jazz. All
are within walking distance. One ticket covers admission to all. Tickets: $25 at
Select-a-Seat or at the door.
Friday, April 4, Singin' and Swingin' Vocal Jazz
Extravaganza, 7 p.m., The Pavilion at Boise State.
Features jazz/blues vocalist Barbara Morrison with The Jeff Hamilton trio and
the Riverside Jazz Orchestra joined by Fifth Avenue. Also performing will be
Jeff Hamilton, Bobby Jones and Mark Colby with the Boise State Big Band and
Boise State Vocal Jazz. Tickets: $20-$40 at Select-a-Seat or at the door.
Saturday, April 5, Gene's Jazz Party, 7
p.m., The Pavilion at Boise State. Features the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the
Frank Potenza Quartet with Shelly Berg on piano. Tickets: $20-$40 at
Select-a-Seat or at the door.
Student Clinics and Competitions,
Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Boise State Student Union. Free and open to
the public. Nearly 1,000 high school and junior high school students, as well as
several vocal jazz choirs, are expected to attend the educational component of
this year's Festival. They will learn from professional jazz artists in clinics
and compete for prizes and the chance to open Friday and Saturday evening
concerts in The Pavilion at Boise State.
Tickets are still available for all events. Special
half-price tickets are available for employees who have been laid off from their
jobs. The tickets are good for general admission seating only and must be
purchased at The Pavilion box office on the Boise State campus. Ticket buyers
must show proof of their recent layoff.
Other discounted ticket offers include a $10 student
ticket that covers admission to both Friday and Saturday night concerts. Tickets
can be purchased at The Pavilion box office or at the door. Students of all ages
may purchase the tickets, but must show a student ID.
