SLAM POET ALIX OLSON TO PERFORM AT BOISE STATE
Alix Olson, a dynamic young lesbian-feminist slam poet and
a nationally recognized spoken work performer, will be performing on Friday,
April 25, at the Boise State University Centennial Ampitheatre. Two student
poets will open for the spoken word artist. The show begins at 6 p.m and is free
and open to the public.
Olson has been recognized in the spoken word scene since
1998, the year that her team from New York City’s Nuyorican Poets Café
clinched the National Poetry Slam championships. Since then, she has been
highlighted in Ms. Magazine and published in "The Lesbian Review of
Books," "Gathering of Tribes" and two anthologies.
Olson’s awards and accomplishments include the 1999 New
York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, the 1998 Barbara Deming "Women in
the Arts" grant and the 1998 "In Our Own Write" award. She is in
the process of releasing her second solo CD, "Independence Meal," on
her own label, subtle sister productions.
This event is sponsored by Boise State Student
Involvement. For more information call 426-1223.
