BOISE STATE STUDENTS WIN REGIONAL HUMAN RESOURCES
COMPETITION
Boise State went undefeated and took first place in the
Northwest Regional Human Resources Collegiate Competition at Microsoft
Corporation in Redmond, Wash., April 5.
Team members Adam Scheerer, Telma Delic and Paul Cheney
defeated 13 other teams in a Jeopardy-style competition that tested knowledge of
human resource management. Competitors included the University of Washington,
Portland State, Washington State-Vancouver, Central Washington, Western
Washington, University of Alaska-Anchorage and Montana State.
Boise State will compete against five other regional
winners for the national championship at the Society for Human Resource
Management (SHRM) conference in Orlando, Fla., in June.
The Human Resource Collegiate Competition is in its fourth
year. The competition encourages undergraduate students to prepare for
professional human resource certification. Students who pass the certification
exam may eventually receive the Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
designation. Boise State had placed second and third in each of the preceding
two years in the regionals.
This year's team coaches include Christine Simon, Human
Resource Association of Treasure Valley (HRATV) student chapter liaison, and
Gundars Kaupins, faculty adviser to the Human Resource Association (HRA) student
chapter at Boise State.
